GEORGE CARLIN DIES AT AGE 71

He was one of a kind.  He was our friend and a friend of radio's.  George Carlin died tonight from heart failure at Saint John's Health Center in Santa Monica about 6 p.m. PDT (9 p.m. EDT) after being admitted earlier in the afternoon for chest pains. George had a history of heart problems. He began his career as a disc jockey at KJOE in Shreveport, Louisiana.  I was lucky enough to have known George and to have spent some time with him. He and Brenda, years ago, came over and spent some time at my home...We sat on the couch and did word games all day and talked about the world we lived in.  When I held a conference in Philadelphia many years ago George canceled a gig and got a private plane to be there....Of people like George we say "He will be missed." But, he was one of a kind..speaking out about things that nobody else dared talked about...George will be SORELY missed.....we needed him around a while longer.

On Education...

Politicians are "the owners" of education, and they want us to believe that a
mind is a terrible thing to waste.

"They want more for themselves, and less for everybody else" he continues.
"They don't want a population of citizens capable of critical thinking. [They
don't want] Well-informed, well-educated people capable of critical thinking.
[They want] Obedient workers - willing to do paperwork, [and] accept jobs
with low pays and overtime. [They] Want your Social Security Card and
retirement money, [and] give it to their 'criminal friends' on Wall Street.
It's a big club and you ain't in it. You and I are not in the big club."
