The National Radio Board for the NAB met for over three hours today in Washington to discuss proposals on compromising with the RIAA's push to collect royalties from radio stations for playing music over the air.  Dennis Wharton, NAB Spokesman said the meeting was an educational update on the status of on going discussions with "musicFirst," the RIAA's collection arm.

NPD's smart phone research arm reported that Android based phones have taken over the smart phone market...For the first time since 2007 the Blackberry OS has dropped to second with iPhones third.  The difference in NPD research is they only take into account the consumer purchases over the counter  and do not count the bulk corporate buys.  Android is now installed in one of every three smartphones sold at retail. John Andrew "Andyman" Davis, PD and afternoon drive jock on WWCD in Columbus, Ohio, has reportedly drowned while on vacation in Michigan.  Andy had been on WWCD since 1991. He was reportedly known for a highly successful Christmas fundraiser every year, called Andyman-a-Thon....

One of the top morning shows in the U.S., Dave Shelly and Chainsaw, were yanked off KGB last January.  They will return to broadcast mornings on 100.7 JACK FM (KFMB-FM) starting August 2nd.  The show has been successful in San Diego for some 20 years.

Today, a New York federal appeals court ruled the U.S. Federal Communications indecency rules are unconstitutional.  The Court ruled the policy is "unconstitutionally vague" and violates First Amendment rights guaranteeing freedom of speech to all Americans.

and Urban Listeners in 15 U.S. Urban Markets

AirKast, and Radio One announced today that the companies have signed an agreement to deliver iPhone and BlackBerry mobile applications for Radio One radio stations. In total, 51 Radio One stations will have both iPhone and BlackBerry mobile applications available to listeners by the end of summer 2010.
